About Section

The Food and Civil Supplies Department was established as an independent department by separating it from the Agriculture, Food, and Cooperation Department in March 1965. The creation of the Food and Civil Supplies Department, responsible for food and urban supply, was initiated from the Agriculture, Food, and Cooperation Department. In December 1977, the management of weights and measures was transferred from the Industries, Energy, and Labor Department to the Food and Civil Supplies Department, placing it under its jurisdiction. This department primarily oversees the regulation of essential commodities’ demand, supply, and public distribution, mainly focusing on maintaining price stability and controlling aspects related to public distribution systems. The primary responsibility of this department is to ensure the implementation of various control orders under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, for essential goods, and to maintain stable prices and appropriate weights and measures related to the said goods.
